November 9 Book Recommendation

Dear Students,

Summarize your book as you usually do. Do you agree with what other students have said?

Soon, you will divide into four groups. Each group will have a different novel. You will need to watch the movie that accompanies the book in order to write a film critique. Sometimes, the film is very different from the book. That can be good or bad and part of your critique.

    The Day of the Jackal
    a mystery

1 There was an organization which is called OAS. OAS tried to kill president of France. However, they always made stupid mistakes, so they couldn't do that. To kill him, OAS hired an English man.

2 An English man changed his name "Jackal". To hire Jackal, OAS had to pay a lot of money, so OAS robbed many valuable things. Jackal made a forged passport, and got a gun in Paris. His plan was perfect.

I would not recommend this book. Other students said this book was easy to read, but it was difficult for me. There were many characters, so I was confused. I couldn't understand this story well. For this reason, it was hard to summarize this story.

    1. Jim Braddock who was a hero in this book was a successful boxer in New York. He had a wife and three children, and he also spent a happy life with his family by 1929. Americans thought the good times would never end, but the whole system crashed and millions of people lost their jobs in October 1929. Jim had to work hard to keep his family because he lost his job as well as other people.

    2. He was kind and loved his family, so he decided never to give his family hungry again when he lost his job. He lost a boxer license in one fight, but Joe Gould who was Jim's friend gave him a big fight; that is fighting with a heavyweight champion. He could get much money if he won the fight, so he practiced so hard, and then, he won the champion. He made his life happy by himself.

I would recommend this book because I could read it with exciting, and it is easy to read and imagine the situation. I learned that it was nothing to gain without effort from this book, so I would like to everyone also learn something from this book.

    1. This is a mystery story; that is, an English man plans the assassination of French president. OAS stands for the Organization of the Secret Army had tried to kill the president, Charles de Gaulle before. However, they always failed; then they hired a professional man who calls himself “Jackal” instead of a lot of money.

    2. OAS didn’t have much money for the assassination. Therefore, they admitted that Jackal stole many things from city. In addition, he had different passports; so, he was able to use many different names and ages. At the day of celebration, he decided to kill the president. However, the police felt something wrong and strange. Finally, the thrilling chase between Jackal and the police was started.

I would recommend this book and I also agree other classmates except Haruka. As she wrote, I was sometimes confused many characters. However, this story was really exciting, especially the last scene of chasing.

    2. In bad American economy, Jim tried to find the work to support his family. He worked at the docks from early morning to the night. He worked hard but he could earn only few coins in a day. Jim's mannager made him fight again in the ring, since then the Cinderellaman's life becan to change!

    a mystery

1 There was a man who lost his all memories, but he knew how to fight and use guns. The only clue about him was a film which was under his skin, and written the number of a bank account. He went to a bank in Zurich, and knew he has saved lots of money. He also realized his life was in danger of being killed as he was seeking his identity.

2 A name of the story's hero is Jason Charles Bourne, and he knew his name at a bank in Zurich. Bourne was saved by a doctor whose name is Geoffrey Washburn. Fishermen found Bourne in the Mediterranean, and Bourne was unconscious then because he was shot many times.

I would not recommend this book because descriptions of the story are complicated, and some similar characters appear so it is confusing to get situations.
